John started Karate at the Portway Ishinryu karate club under Sensei Tyrone Whyte 6th Dan & Sensei Karl Finn 6th Dan aged 16 years gaining his shodan in 1982 John has competed under continues Kumite rules and wkf style points rules winning Bronze \ Silver medals at the National Championships & winning a bronze medal in the Austrian open all in Kuimte. John is coach to Ross Mathieu his son an English International and English \ British Champion. Sensei John teaches in East London.
